Research Services

MGS is not accepting new research orders at this time.

The Maryland Genealogical Society offers a limited research service to members and non-members.

Specific inquiries regarding Maryland ancestors will be researched in the Society’s files and among selected sources in the collections of the Maryland State Archives and the Maryland Center for History and Culture Library, including Maryland probate and land records, marriage and death records, church records, censuses, newspapers, family histories, and a variety of other published and unpublished sources.  The sources consulted will be tailored to the individual inquiry.  The service is limited in its scope, and is not intended to duplicate the work of a professional genealogist.

The research fee, payable in advance, is $20.00 per hour for members of the Maryland Genealogical Society, $30.00 per hour for non-members, and does not include the cost of any copies of documents which you may request.  The Society cannot guarantee that a search will be successful, and the research fee is not refundable.

Inquiries should provide as much detail as possible regarding names, dates and places, and should indicate what sources have already been examined.  Please be sure to indicate the specific questions which you would like to have us research.
