Below are links to searchable PDF files of the indexes for all but a handful of issues of the
Maryland Genealogical Society Journal and its predecessor the
Maryland Genealogical Society Bulletin. These publications represent over 60 years of articles on Maryland families and genealogical resources, and the indexes include thousands of names.
The only missing indexes are for Volumes 28 and 29, and for two of the four issues in Volume 30. Indexing of these is planned, and the indexes will be added as they are completed.
The format of the indexes varies over time. Generally, they are limited to personal names rather than topics, while some also include land tract names. If you are researching enslaved individuals without surnames, they may be indexed in various ways, including: at the beginning of the index in a separate section; with the given names indexed as if they were surnames; or in the "N" names under "No Surname."
Except for a cumulative index for Volumes 1-5, each link below is for one volume. Each volume of the
Bulletin contains four issues; each volume of the
Journal contains three issues. The indexes for Volumes 1 through 27 were separate indexes published immediately following completion of each volume. Starting with the last half of Volume 30 and continuing to today, each issue has its own index, and these separate indexes have been combined into one PDF for each volume.
Clicking on each link below will open a PDF file with the (sometimes multiple) indexes for that year. You can search all the indexes in the PDF file at one time using the electronic “Find” feature of your Internet browser or PDF reader.
If you are a MGS member, once you find index entries of interest, you can continue your research online since all issues of the Bulletiin and Journal are available in the Members Only area of the web site. After you sign in as a member, select “MGS Bulletin & Journal” from the dropdown menu under "Members Only" on the lefthand navigation bar.
